Laura McCavit from Abbott Nutritions gave an inservice on Prebiotics (which provides food for live bacteria) and on Probiotics (the live intestinal bacteria). New Similac infant formula has the addition of prebiotics.
Sue Liu, the president, welcomed the new members from Harris-Methodist Ft. Worth Hospital, congratulated Ms. Luellen Adair for her great 100 nurses title in 2008, urged members to online vote for NANN election, and instructed members to online register for NANN annual conference.
Kathy Weeks, the secretary, recited the last minutes.
RuthAnn Grimmer, the treasurer, reported the balance of the NTANN account.
Sherri Clark, the community service liaison, requested volunteers for the quilt project and auctioned items for the Beginning Center for Battered Women and Children.
Ms. Charlotte Breithaup, RN, MSN, IBLLC, gave a wonderful lecture on breastfeeding high risk neonates. Her lecture captured our attention with quotes of current scientific research papers and incorporation of developmental care into nursing practice. We appreciate her presentation, which will inspire us to give a higher level of quality care.

Ms. Laura McCavit, from Abbott Nutrition, gave inservice on the “Elecare”, the no palm oil, amino acid formula with yami vanina flavor for the infant with GI issues, it is also one of the WIC formulas. She reminded everyone to mark the May 20th, 2008 for the free seminar with good food at a restaurant which its name will be published soon on our website.
President, Sue Liu, welcome the guest-NICU nurses from Parkland Memorial Hospital who despite the bad wheather and attended the meetings. They all wore the TEAM MAD DOG badges for the support of Dr. Salhab. What a wonderful group! NTANN need them to join the membership and take some officers position in the future. Thanks Parkland friends. Sue also reported “the Bright Tomorrow” story contest due on 4-25-2008, check the NANN.org webside for the sample stories and the details. And the Annual NANN Conference on September 24-27, 2008, in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
Vice-President, Kristina James, reported the May 1st Event for the celebration of Nurses Day and 20th Anniversary of NTANN, please follow the website instruction make RSVP by 4-25-2008. She also distributed the recruit brochues.
Kathy Weeks, Secretary, reported the Feburay minutes and approved it.
RuthAnn Grimmer, Treasurer and Education, reported NTANN account balance.

Dr. Salhab gave CEU credit lecture on “BPD and Clinical Management”. It was thorough and current with the up-to-date references, also very interactive. Thanks.

Thanks to Ms. Dona Taylor RNC,NNP for her wonderful lecture about Distal Bowel Refeeding and the case presentation, and to the Ovation Pharmaceutical, Inc. for the beautiful t-shirts. members were enjoying them. Also to Ms. Laura Mccavit from Abbott Nutrition, for the delicious Chinese food and the introduction of Similac products which will be the WIC formula. Remember the importance of BIB (Brain, Immunity, and Bone) which the Similacs stand strongly for.
Sue Liu, RNC, BSN, the President of NTANN, reminded members to use our website for communication, and to link NANN for applying Ovation NNP sholarship, to mark the calander for 24th NANN Annual Conference in Florida, to explore all the educational materials and free CEU from NICUNIVERSITY.com. She also collects the concensus for the new,free half-day conference participation by a drug company, Please email her your preferred date and time.

Thanks to the members who contribute their time making the fleece blankets for the Beginning Center in Garland, Texas. It is the perfect gifts to keep needed family warm.

Dr. Van Miller’s talk was interesting and it brought us to pay attention for those white patches (Multiple white spots on infant’s skin), postures, hands position, unequal-sized pupils, facial movement, feeding problem, etc. You can email Dr. Miller at Miller@Texaschildneurology.com for colorful power-point slides of the presentation.

Dr. Wendy Chung’s talk about Congenital Syphillis is a refresher and brought our attention to this old sexually transmitted disease.

What a thrill, all the fleece tied blanket projects for Women’s shelter are being taken home by the memebers to make while the weather is cold here in North Texas! Thanks for their dedication to our community service.

The speech of the Impact of the Delivery Mode to the Premature Infant by Dr. Deulofeut was short but interesting with the findings.
Good luck to Sherryl Clark, the Community Liaison and Kristina James, the newly elected Vice-President for their trips to San Diego, California, for the 23rd NANN conference in September.
Members approved the donation of goody-baskets to Beginning Center for battered women and children.

Sheri Clark was chosen by board to attend the 23rd NANN conference in San Diego with the complimentary admission. We wish her have a great trip in September 2007 to San Diego.
Commmunity services Liaison, Sheri Clark announced to donnate school supplies for the New Beginning Center in Garland, she welcome members to bring in school supplies or to donnate money.
Suzanne Staebler, NNP who had returned from the visit to China and gave a presentation of “Comparison the NICU practice in China.” What a great speaker! She really opened our eyes to see the world.

Topic: Cardiac Issues in the NICU
Place: Southeast Conference Room, Main Building, Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas (PHD)
Time: 7:30 PM
It was a great turn-out for this meeting. Dr. Pearse’s speech poiinted out the importance of bedside physical assessment done by RN which could lead to the finding of congenital heart abnomality. Yes, ECHO is very useful to give the pictures of heart problem, it is definitely need a thorough physical assessment of infant to prompt that ECHO test.
Dr. Pearse’s interactive learning modules are very useful to teach various congenital heart disease, it helps learners to understand the defects, the blood flow, and the treatments.
We thank Dr. Pearse’s kindness for giving such a wonderful presentation.
